A good example of what Rob is talking about is a problem I've run into with a name which is common to this part of my state. There are at least 19 different spellings of it, including Schreckengost, Shreckengost, Schrecongost, Shrecengost, etc.
The old Russell Index System of Key Letters more or less compensated for all those variations, so it's actually a better system in many ways than the computer index.
Ahh, the good old days!
