I would be willing to help out by starting one for Pennsylvania although I think something can be made general enough for the whole country. I would need some guidance though as to a good starting point as far as the outline and style of the work. I read through the Ohio standards and based on what has been written in this thread, I'm not sure that this is what everyone exactly wants. There are standards and practices manuals that a lot of similar organizations have. The one I'm familiar with is from the American Society of Home Inspectors.

Obviously ours will probably need to be more detailed with regard to specific issues, but I’m wondering if the ASHI guide is more like what we are looking for as far as style goes. They have a similar problem to us in that they tend to be a lot of smaller companies and independents that feel pressure from larger discount companies that they feel don’t adhere to good standards. In PA, either through a combination of consumer horror stories or effectively lobbying, all home inspectors are required to be members of ASHI or another nationally recognized professional organization that adhere to similar standards.
If and when cheap searches start to bite consumers, it will be a lot easier to get legislation to require that searches be conducted by someone with NALTEA certification or something similar if we have a detailed code of standards and practices. This has probably already been said before, so sorry to repeat.
Anyway, if someone has a good set of standards they want to provide me with as a model, I will gladly get started.
