I knew this would get some kind of discussion going...

For my part, I've concluded that this particular person is probably better than most I could replace her with and now I do have 6 months of time training. She was infact very distressed when she learned about this and that makes me feel confident that she cares. Caring is a good quality that I can't just through out due to one mistake. I'll keep a close eye at this point and let her continue to grow with us.
