I recently got a call from a long-time client asking me to lower my fees. They told me that they are getting current owners in my area for around $30 and asked if I could match that. After running the numbers I responded that the only way I can offer any discount is if I get the volume. They said they'll have to go with the cheaper searches.
While I hate like heck to lose a client, I can't stay in business if I lower my prices that much. In fact, I just raised my fees 5% across the board back in January. I'm even considering a fuel surcharge if gas prices go as high as they're predicting.
As my daddy always said, you get what you pay for.
