I like the idea of abstractors licensing with the State my self. As providers of title information we are held accountable for our work by our clients, they usually require proof of Errors and Omissions Insurance and most certainly will ask us to submit a claim if need be. Therefore knowledge is the great protector for us, so not only licensing but required continual title education is also a good idea. But not only should we be licensed, we should, if acting as a closing package agent, be required to post bond with the State. There are states that require all three of the above in order to operate as a Absractor.
