Sounds a lot like a new occupation that has sprung up in the cooling real estate market called "home staging". The real estate market has become a buyer's market, and to get an offer close to the asking price  it has become necessary for sellers to make their homes as attractive as possible to prospective buyers during an open house. There are people actually marketing themselves to tell you where to place your furniture, and how to landscape (stage the open house for a buyer) to make the real estate more attractive.
