Long before anyone took it to court for 'slander of title' an agreement would be made where the abstractor would in all probability get paid. No - the mechanic's lien laws were not made for this - but wouldn't hesitate to file one; and when the homeowner, lender or anyone else called me and asked why - I would tell them.
