Here is more information on the Kansas Abstractor License.
It has been on the books since the 1940's under article 58-2801 through 2802. I'm trying to find a link for everyone.
To become a licensed abstractor he/she must take a four part test, cost $70. To re-take a portion of the test is $40. The next test is scheduled for the first Friday in March. It moves around the state, I believe they are looking into Hutchinson, Kansas.
Next the abstractor must obtain E and O insurance in the amount of $25K.
Next the abstractor must obtain a $25k bond for each county they want to search in.
At which time the abstractor turns in the required form and the license fee, sorry I don't have that.
The abstractors are under the Board of Abstractors headed up by Glenn McQueen at 620-544-2311, whom I found to be quite helpful.
