A lady in NC is doing just that whenever she gets requests from companies she doesn't know, or even slow pays. They move on or overnight a check and lucky for her, usually gets the check since she's out along the coast where abstractors are less plentiful. I spoke with her by phone once and seems like it was Dare County.. maybe she'll speak up if she reads the forum. I know everyone would like to hear her opinion.
I'm enjoying the irony of this situation. So we all decide to require pre-payment or stonewall the slow payers if they aren't on the list, and our biggest concern is that we're left with a small list?
How long do you suppose some of these 'title companies' could stay in business if we united to do that? A week? Two weeks, maximum, without any orders turned in? I don't know about you but two weeks worth of wait has gotten to be an A List client in my business.
They created this monster when they 'taught' us to tolerate slow payment. Well thanks y'all. Now we can. Care to bet on who can last longer?
American abstractors are the proud cockroaches of the business world. We exist, no, thrive long after most businesses fold and run screaming to backruptcy court. Not us. I don't know what it is that separates us from the rest of business folk except our predisposition to tenacity but after the bomb drops and the dust settles an abstractor will be crawling around in the courthouse. Now if we could only unite, would be a force to be reckoned with.
