perfect for our industry!!! I'll summarize:
1. decide what you WILL provide and what you WON'T! i.e. will you guarantee a certain turn-around time, what is your price for that search in that county, will you fill out their forms or not.
3. be clear! Don't assume you know what they are talking about. One company might call a search X while another may call it Y. Don't agree unless you are sure you know what they want.
6. Heed the warnings of others! Enough said!
8. Don't undervalue yourself! I cannot say enough about this point! We are professionals. There are some who aren't so if you ARE, then act like it. Especially if you are in an area where the sharks are circling for your clients.
9. Don't take a bad fit... Amen!!! This happens everyday in this industry--and on this board. Slow pay is better than no pay and lowering fees to keep the client. Don't compromise. You might THINK you need the work but if you aren't making money, you don't have a BUSINESS you have a HOBBY. I personally would rather spend my time NOT being paid to market myself to new clients than work for someone who is unreasonable and who doesn't see me a valued asset!
