I guess all the people who have looked at your entry before me considered your question rhetorical.  But I have been wondering the same thing.  Is it that borrowers actually believe the banks have the borrowers' best interests in mind?  Is it that the borrowers have been talked out of having attorney representation on the grounds that it's just not worth the extra cost of paying attorney's fees?  imho, the question revolves around: do borrowers need protection from themselves when buying or refinancing property?  Can/should they be required to have an attorney represent their interests?  Or should we be looking at it the other way around: should the banks be policed better as to their lending practices?
