We are going to be seeing more and more of this due to the implosion of many lenders, just like the S&L problems years ago.  However, there is a web site that you can check to see which lender/bank is successor in interest to the out of business lender.  It is:  http://www.ffiec.gov/nicpubweb/nicweb/nichome.aspx I have found this website invaluable in finding defunct lenders.  Hope that helps!
