Too  bad  the  "*fit has to hit the fan" before a firm decides to honor their obligations to pay for work done for them.   Do you have a FIRM, signed agreement with them regarding your work with them, including payment terms and times?   Always better to have the details worked out before any problem could develop regarding timely payments.  Have to wonder if "these firms" have power companies, landlords, and others they owe money to to they can feed such a line to about non/late payments.
