The Cook County, Illinois Recorder of Deeds now sends out a post card after recording a quit claim deed. It's a reaction to a recent rash of fraudulent property transfers.
Quothe the recorder: "Beginning September 15, 2006, my office will be sending out a postcard notice to the residents of any property on which a quit claim deed has been filed. The postcard will ask the residents if they are aware of a transaction on their property. If they know a transaction took place on their property, there is nothing to worry about. If they are not aware of the transaction, the postcard gives numbers to call for assistance in determining if a fraudulent transaction has taken place. The best way to prevent property fraud is through vigilance."
If you didn't already know, now you do.
