That must be the most absurd thing I have every heard... "We aren't going to pay you until 2009, and if you stop doing our work we will never pay you!" The fact is they owe you for the work you have already done. They have no right to hold your payment until 2009 under any circumstance and they most certainly can't decide not to pay you anything at all if you decide not to wait 2 years for payment.
Sue them, sue them, sue them. The odds of them still being in business in 2009 are right up there with winning the lottery and getting struck by lightning at the same time. By continuing to work for a company under such ridiculous terms you are helping them keep work that could be going to a client that DOES pay their abstractors.
