Well...that is essentially pretty much the same answer that we received a year ago. The functions you describe are  laudable efforts, but not accomplishments. While NALTEA has involved itself in these various functions...what positive returns (that means results from these efforts)  have there been? Has it produced any benefits such as the reduced insurance rates that it touted at the outset? The certification program really means little unless it gains acceptance within the industry as a uniform standard. Have the members really experienced any great growth in business  as a result of membership?  Yes, I am critical, and yes I choose to remain on the side lines until you can create something that generates a better market position for the abstractor.

I think you need to work toward advancing the interest of the abstractor with respect to his ability to keep his doors open. I see constant complaints about slow business, outsourcing, collection problems, slow pay no pay clients, problems with quality and ridiculous work conditions imposed by VMs.  I think that that is where NALTEA needs to concentrate its efforts. Right now it has no teeth, and remains little more than an aspiring advisory organization.  I think that is why most of the abstractors  (myself included although I do very little abstracting at this time ) can see little reason to join.

With respect to volunteering my services ....talk to me when you are ready to fight to advance the financial position of the abstractor, and have something worth my time. Right now I am having difficulty seeing where it is. The abstractors need to have an organization that carves out a market sector for them, markets their skills and uses the law effectively to protect that interest. Is NALTEA in a position to offer that? When it is ...talk to me about volunteering my services. Until then I would be wasting my time.
