Your state has done only half the job at protecting its consumers. You need to talk to your state legislators about consumer protection by a statute requiring title searches to be performed by licensed abstractors. Otherwise the license is nothing more than a cash cow for the state.
I presume that the state requires some form of testing for the license , or is it just a cash purchase? With respect to the attorneys and notaries...testing is required in order to receive the license or commission. In these cases the license/commission is meaningful, and does contribute to the volume of work accordingly.

The other alternative is to unionize the abstractors. I know that there are those out there to whom the word union is a curse word, but it is time to wake up to reality...nothing else seems to be working.

A year ago Ellen Malloy came up with a great idea for a work cooperative. All the NALTEA fanatics wanted nothing to do with it...was not the reason for which NALTEA was formed...Trotskyites of the craft I assume.
