George: I understand your point of view, but the abstractors I utilize also understand my point of view. I use ONLY experienced, independent abstractors, the vast majority of whom have their own client base. They know they can always reject an order from me WITH NO ILL WILL. It has happened many times (always for good reasons) and I have no problems explaining that to the clients. Except for my folks in the U.P., none of them have a problem with the "no find" rule, and it is in the U.P. where I DO charge for no finds. I also tell everyone that I do not expect them to make a special trip for just one order -- ever. They will call me if they can't make a scheduled trip to a county and I explain to the client there will be a delay.
I really do see both sides of this issue. If any one of the people I work with complains about the no find/no fee rule, I will address it with the clients.
