Robert, as usual, you seem to be spot on but there are others in this industry besides NDS who deserve to be called on the carpet. How about the so called title plants that use Freedom of Information Requests to buy records in bulk from the recorders. The price they pay is so low it cannot even be displayed on most calculators. For example, one so-called title company paid about $2000 for 22 million Fort Bend County documents.
When I tried to calculate the cost per document, my calculator didn't have enough screen to display all the zeros behind the decimal point. But you and I and the local taxpayer will pay 50 cents to two dollars a page for a copy of the same document.
Compare the profit margins of these online traffickers and it seems to me that National Deed Service's 1700% margin puts them far behind in the race to exploit the American people with an asset they paid local officials to compile for local consumption.
