When my firm was doing searches independent of the corresponding closings we used to insist on our fee being printed on the order. It avoids any confusion, and prevents a client from later arguing that they had a different rate in their data base.

The biggest problem we had with nickel and diming clients was the result of volume discounts. A number of clients would negotiate a volume discount. The volume would be there for a while, but then drop off. However, the client would expect to receive the discount even if he was not delivering on the volume. We got around this by restructuring our discounts.
