You asked what I would do.. well, before suing, I'd ring their bell.  I'd send them a certified letter indicating that you are aware they have been slandering your business and that you expect them to cease and desist or you will have to pursue further legal action.  Then I circulate a flyer at the courthouse indicating (without naming names) that it has come to your attention that your business is being slandered and that you take it seriously and if it continues you will begin legal action.  That should stop it cold.

Also, I would send a formal letter to your client acknowledging your conversations, his concerns and your understanding that he would have been remiss to not address them.  Also, thank him for coming to you with his concerns and indicating your appreciation for his professionalism, then outline the steps you take to insure an accurate search on his behalf.  This will seem professional and if I were the client, I would appreciate it and think of you fondly.

Hopefully you won't have to sue.  In order to win, you will have to ask your client to testify which might appear to him that you are being petty.  You certainly have the right to sue, but I'd try my suggestion first.
