One of the aspects of a "claims made" policy is that the lawyers that will call you up about a claim do not understand them either- they will scare you to death letting you know that you are not covered because you have a claims made policy!- The other thing that is not very well known is that while a claim can be covered by a policy that you purchased 5 years ago, the deductible for the claim will be the one for your current policy- which just doesn't seem right to me- if a claim is made based on the coverage of a previous policy, it just seems the terms of that policy should be the ones that affect the outcome, but that is not the case- and the fact that one might have a claim is enough of a treat also- I have been through that and just about everything that could go wrong for me did. There was some good that came out of it too, the amount paid to me for my search did not match the amount on the HUD-1- so there was liability for the differences ,that became a major factor in the division of the payout- and the complete transaction turned out to be fraudulent after the a bit of time went by- but the title insurance company was at fault for too hasty of a payout to the insured. All was an experience that I do not wish to re-live at anytime.
