Most people I know who were involved in those protests tell me today that they were mostly looking for an excuse to defy authority, destroy property and smoke dope.

Let's face it, the 1960s was a hairy, noisy little decade which culminated in half the population dressing up as Indians.  I was no big fan of Nixon, either, but we've had worse presidents since then.
