Have not received a bill from a state marshal or process server for less than $75.00 in years. If he has to make more than one trip, or has to serve more than one defendant...his bill is usually in excess of $100.00.  In Connecticut process servers (Indifferent Persons) are used when there is more than one defendant in a case and they live in different counties. Therefore, he almost always makes more than one service of the papers, and charges for each service he makes. He gets his mileage charges also. Marshals are jurisdictionally limited to the counties in which the have their office located.

So far the only problematic scenarios have been with eviction notices (Notices to Quit the Premises). The marshals have told me that if they hustle they can make $75,000 to $100,000 per year. Some of them operate businesses on the side on top of that.
