I do not know this person, but I have a suggestion for what to do if it happens again.  We all occasionally pick up clients from calls to the courthouses.  It really depends on the county, since some of the smaller courthouses will fax a document to someone instead of insisting they use an abstractor.  Whenever I get one of these calls, I get the person's info and their request, but I INSIST that they follow up with a fax or email request to my office.  This is my contract with them.  Remember: a verbal request is about a good as the paper it is written on.  Then, I don't send them the document until I have received this fax or email.  This doesn't mean I don't get taken, because I have once--by an attorney at that, but it certainly helps to protect me.  I have found that those clients who are willing to send the fax or email request, generally, are more reputable.  If they balk, that's my answer.
