I had a client over-pay me like that recently. I called three times and left messages to call me - I left my name and number and mentioned that I was one of their abstractors. Not really a surprise, but the accounts payable person wasn't very interested in speaking to me until my last message when I explained what had happened - got a call back really quick!
Funny how they don't want to talk to their abstractors, the probably just assume its another one calling looking for their check, until they find out YOU have a lot of THEIR money. At one point I was just considering cashing the check and waiting until they called me back to send them the difference. If they ever complained, I could just say "Hey, I tried to call several times."
