That entire county was virtually wiped out in Hurricane Katrina.  As far as I know, they are still operating the clerk's office out of multiple FEMA trailers and all of the indexes were lost beyond repair.  Last I heard, the local abstractors mocked up a "new" index but no one is certain how accurate it is.  Many businesses that were there are closed and many other abstractors will not search there as the liability is so high.

You may want to ask the local land office if they know whether the company is still in business or not.
