Well, I can understand that. I personally do not believe in the death penalty, but reasonable minds could differ.
I think life imprisonment...fighting for your life everyday is far worse. I saw something interesting on one of the educational channels not long ago on prison gangs. Apparently it is very hard to survive in prison unless you join one of these gangs. Otherwise you become a source of income for them. They sell you "protection". The program explained how one of these gangs was successful in selling protection to a well known mob boss in a maximum security prison. He bought the protection for two years at extreme expense. After two years he thought he had enough mob members in the prison to protect him...wrong. He suddenly found himself subject to gang violence from which his own people could not protect him. Apparently the corrections officers do little to prohibit this unless there is a flare up of violence.
