I haven't had time to look at it that much, but at first glance, The delta in average temp from Jan07 and Jan08 is hardly conclusive.  Yes the winters here and in the UK do seem colder in January.  The average yearly temp is the number everyone is getting all hot about.  And if I may say hard scientific data claims that as global warming goes up, winter temps in the UK will go down (the data is from the UK folks)
