Yes, I believe that you did misunderstand my post. Though I am a licensed agent, most of the work we do is abstracting for title agents. Thus, my clients (title agents) do not usually provide us (abstractor) with the SSN of those who own the land we are searching. Rather, we provide the copy of the Fed Tax Lien with the SSN so they can determine whether or not it applies. I am sure that they have the SSN, but we do not need it to do a search.
The problem is that if we (abstractor) were unable to provide a copy of Fed Tax Liens (un-redacted), the client (title agent) would not be able to determine if it attached. Redaction makes online records less useful, though it is better than posting the records online un-redacted.
