In the counties I cover, some charge nothing and others charge up to $2.50 per page.  There are a couple who do not allow copying index entries at all.  While I don't typically have a need for copying an index page, it became an issue for me several years ago when I was told I missed a security deed.  I finally granteed the bank within the given time period and found the loan which was indexed under the bank officer's name rather than the borrower's - clerk's error.  I insisted on copying both indices pages ( grantee & grantor) to prove it; it was like wrestling with a mean pit bull.  I was told under no circumstances was I allowed to copy an index page.  I did get my copies for free.
