Actually, you can make it with canned clams instead of fresh, and it is still pretty good. Depends on the spices you use and the fresh shrimp compensates for not using fresh clam.
Try this sometime:
1. Chop 1 small onion.
2. Chop several ( how many depends on how much you like the flavor) cloves of fresh garlic
3. Chop 1 fresh cayenne pepper
4. Cook the above chopped vegetables in a sauce pan in extra virgin olive oil.
5. Add to it basil and oregano to your taste
6. Cook until the chopped garlic cloves turn a tan color. Be careful not to let them turn brown or the sauce will have a burned taste
7. Add two cans of chopped clams including the broth.
8. Add one can of Rienzi white clam sauce
9. Let it simmer on low heat for 30 to 45 minutes.
10. As you remove the sauce from the heat add 1 lb of fresh pre cooked shrimp. Do not add the shrimp until after you have removed the sauce from the heat and you are ready to serve. Otherwise the shrimp will shrink and get tough.
Garlic bread and white zinfandel wine go good with it two.
Yeah, the Maine lobsters are really great. we had a big lobster die off in long Island sound about a year or two ago, and they are just starting to repopulate the Sound. So, lobster is really expensive now. I fixed two of them for my wife and I on New Years Day. Cost me $80.00 for the two lobsters. I am thinking of running a line of lobster pots as a hobby in Long Island sound when I retire in a few years
