Probably a result of interest rates trending higher, as someone else here suggested.  I understand also that the supply of available housing has contracted drastically in some areas of the country.  

My guess is that, seeing where this economy is headed, a lot of people are thinking twice about taking on any long-term financial obligations.  Just my take.
