Let's wait until after Tuesday. Then you can lick your wounds for the next four years. Maybe the next time you will be able to pick a candidate with a more positive platform and a more focused campaign to explain it more clearly to the electorate.
I wouldn't pass out the cigars just yet, F. Lee. Some GOP internal polls show McCain gaining ground in several key battleground states:
New Jersey:
McCain - 48%; Obama - 43%; Undecided - 7%
Michigan:
McCain - 44%; Obama - 42%; Undecided - 10%
Pennsylvania:
McCain - 55%, Obama - 33%; Undecided - 10%
California:
Obama - 44%; McCain - 43%; Undecided - 9%; Barr - 3%
Undecideds are said to be breaking in favor of McCain. I don't think that the Dems can count on solidifying their majority, either, if the races in my home state, Pennsylvania, are any indication. Incumbent Rep. John P. Murtha (D-District 12) is fighting for his political life against Republican challenger William Russell, a retired Army Lt. Col., in a race that should Murtha should have easily won. After his accusations that eight Marines "executed civilians in cold blood" in Haditha (all but one of the eight Marines were acquitted of all of the charges against them and one case is still pending) and remarks about his constituents being "racists" and "rednecks", local pundits are projecting an upset victory for Russell. In fact, Murtha has issued an appeal to moveon.org for assistance in the final days of the campaign.
Like Yogi Berra said, "It ain't over, 'til it's over."
Regards,
Scott Perry
