The statement you made about,

reminded me of an indexing system I heard of a few years back called Soundex.  As I understand it, Soundex was used by a handful of title companies in Ohio to index their title plants.   I'm wondering if anyone has ever successfully incorporated the Soundex algorithm into a computer-based index.  I'm no tech whiz, but it seems to me that such a system would work well in a computer program.
