You are not technically sub-contractors under Florida law as I read it.  It is made pretty clear in sections 489.128 and 489.532 of your state code who qualifies as a sub-contractor.

Filing a lien, and I use the term loosely, against the homeowners would most likely cause you more problems than you have.
