Boy, ya'll bought that sob story hook, line and sinker.  Open wide so they can remove the hook that is clear down your throat.  I understand the concept of some is better than none but one has to remember that people and companies lie to make you feel sorry for them so you won't pursue what is rightfully yours.  It almost sounds like they used a bully tactic.....take half now 'cuz you won't get any later...all of it sounds a bit fishy to me. 

Altho, the choice was yours to make and I am glad it worked out for you (at least that is what they made you think).  Keep us posted on the next time they don't pay and give you the same 1/2 bait.  That way I/we won't feel guilty for the inevitable "I/we told you so" that will follow.
