The media has no need to report on any of the attacks that were prevented because they can't run it for weeks and terrify the people. If you notice the news has a great way of instilling fear in the populous. It is quite amazing really.
9/11 was "allowed" to happen! I know I will get a lot of flack for that and I have gotten flack in other posts but the fact of the matter is - Bush, gov't or whomever you need to blame it on - insert name here, needed a reason to go to war for the oil. And the truth of it is that the possible loss of 10 of thousands of people, which thank God was extremely minimal thanks to the firemen and women and other police and transit workers that helped get the people out, was more than enough ammunition to authorize the war on terror. It is unfortunate that so many had to die for something that should have never happened in the first place. As a matter of fact, I almost lost my cousin and his wife that day. Luckily she got out and he was away on business.
As for the Caribou. I suppose I should clarify my prior statements -most of the caribou in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge are Porcupine Caribou and their numbers are not as big as Langdon claims. According to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge the Porcupine Caribou number in the range of 152,000 give or take a few and a smaller Central Arctic Herd numbers around 23,400. Now, I am sure there are other caribou all over Alaska that would push the number up some but the area of drilling is smack in the middle of the calving grounds of the Porcupine Caribou, which is what I was speaking of. I have never heard or seen in my research anything that remote indicates these animals are a nuisance and as a matter of fact these animals provide food to the surrounding indigenous tribes. I am sure his brother or in-law lived with the tribes and not in the city, right????
The amount of oil to be found can not be given but the numbers I cited were estimates done by the DOE, Department of Energy, and the USGS, United State Geolocical Survey, on the amount of oil we use per year versus the estimated amount of usable oil to be found - see this link.http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pet_cons_psup_dc_nus_mbbl_a.htm and www.usgs.gov
