Yes, they are still in business.  we've actually done quite a bit of work for them (although I was very leery at first because of the Infinity fiasco).  Surprisingly, there haven't been any issues.

As for gmail, I highly recommend it for everyone.  It is run by everything-they-touch-turns-to-gold-GOOGLE.  We use webmail that sits on top of gmail so that our mail goes to @ArgentTitleResearch.com, but what we're actually using is gmail in all its glory.  It has become an integral part of our tracking system because of its ease of use.  All of our out-going orders are archived and any time there is a question or problem, we just use gmail's function to bring up all the e-mails involving that order.  It's terrific.  And that's only one small part of how we use gmail.  (Why not scan and save all of your orders utilizing GOOGLE's storage space instead of your own?  e-mail it to yourself and you've got a permanent record.)
