That reminds me of a story from one of my Tax Procedure classes. We had a guest lecturer for the section on tax crimes... he was a very prominent defense attorney who only did criminal tax defense work. He said that he had a big fish mounted on the wall behind his desk. When his clients ask if he likes to fish, he says "no, that fish is there as a reminder to all of my clients.... he wouldn't be here if he had only kept his mouth shut."
He also said "I tell my wife 'don't even go to bed without your attorney.'"
It seems, especially in tax crimes, once a special investigator shows up, you are toast. Nothing you say can help you... it can only hurt your case. So... rule number one is DO NOT COMMIT TAX FRAUD. Rule number two is only needed if you already broke number one - KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT, or you might find yourself mounted on the wall behind someone's desk!
(If you broke rules one and two... rule three is DON'T DROP YOUR SOAP IN THE SHOWERS!)
