We all stand for people taking personal responsiblity. Of course. But what you're saying is because some people acted irresponsible, we all have to pay for it.
People have jobs in Europe, and I think everyone considers Europe to be pretty socialist. And you have to admit that our economic system has many socialistic aspects to it- Medicare, Medicade, Social Security, Public Schooling- and these are good things.
I don't like running up huge amounts of debt...but given the economic circumstances right now, it's called for. Some of the debt is going to be repaid by the banks and insurance companies as they get back in the black. Most of the first trillion that went out there to stablize toxic assets will come back, and may even make a profit, because those assets were undervalued. I don't think the stimulus will be as costly as is projected because those jobs created will increase the size of the economy and thus offset the loss of tax revenue from lost moneys. We've lost 12 trillion out of the economy...you have to get money back in.
I don't think it does anyone's grand children any good to have an economic collapse right now.
And I am sorry you've had a tough time...truly am. I can empathise with you. It's been hell for me as well...I'm barely hanging onto my house right now. And I don't expect anything from anyone either, but you know...it sure is nice when someone has your back.
There is nothing wrong with a government that looks out for the common good and provides a safety net for its citizens...
