I have used Heavyweight in the past as an example of how these settlement companies rip off the consumer- I have a copy of a HUD-1 that lists on line 1102- $300 for "Abstract or title search" and then on line 1103-another $300 for "Title examination'- I know and did contract work for a company that did work for HW and they only paid between $125-150 for the search, if and when they actually did pay for it, more often they just did not and kept promising to do so at a later date.
I believe the state of Md has done some investigating. The fact that they charged their customers at least $600 for which they paid "nothing" is a violation of section 8 of RESPA anyway you look at it-, they added no core title value to what they received - except the "fraud  and embezzlement" portion that we don't include with a regular title search!!!
