Ellen I would say the usual amount of about $100 for a two owner search.
Then your question brings up another matter also-, since most of the prior searches( especially foreclosure cases") were done by someone that was willing to take short cuts, and only probably do a current owner search=, would you feel obligated to chain the deeds back a bit to be sure the legal is correct? I have found that there are a tremendous amount of error ridden legals and or other problems, like typo's, that now show up in the current deeds, all of which\h is perpetuated by the trustee's deeds that are being thrown on with wild abandon all the time. They don't seem to care the damage they are doing to the land records- just as long as they get the money, I guess!!
The local, experienced examiners will have to be double careful to see and note these to the next potential settlement companies so that they can make the corrections- ( the off shore searches will not pick this up since they don't do this as a rule- only current owner searches and rely on prior policies, which are loaded with their own errors~)
