Thanks Robert - I agree learning from experienced abstractors is the best way.  It's how I learned years ago.  

I saw ALTA was offering basic classes for a fee and wondered if anyone was familiar and knew if they were useful.     

Of course I'd much prefer my second option, if that is possible.
