It is my understanding that Iowa does require some sort of registration (and other requirements that must be met) for abstractors that participate in the Iowa Title Guarantee Program. Since Iowa has banned traditional title insurance in favor of their Program, I assume that an abstractor would want to participate.

I suppose there are no requirements if you are not a participating abstractor, but that would really seem to limit your options. Not having any experience in Iowa, I'm not sure how much abstracting work is available outside of the Program.
