I don't follow your logic. If the government can't run a business worth a darn, as you seem to believe, why would you think that a public option would force private insurance companies out of business? The only way that would happen is if the government can provide coverage that is at least as good as people have now for less money - and if they can do that, what is the harm? We would all have better coverage for less. If there will be waiting lines, and the government is going to deny care to people, as so many seem to believe, then there will always be a place for private health insurance.
Again, I am not advocating for a public option, as it exists now, I'm just pointing out the inconsistency of your logic. If you don't want the public option, keep paying increasing rates for private insurance.
