If it's competition you want, support the public option and give people the choice of whether they want it, or traditional health insurance. Make the private companies compete for our business - maybe if they had to do that, they would put more pressure on the medical community to offer more competative prices. Consumers can't demand it because they can't afford health care without insurnace. There is no point in a consumer shopping around for the best price on open heart surgery becasue they couldn't pay for it regardless of which doctor and hospital offered the best price.
Besides that... I don't want to "buy" my health care based on which has the lowest price - I want the best doctor and hospital I can find. The "competition" should be for health insurance - not health care.
