I am amused that this is called "liven the board up" perhaps that is a pun, BUT this is a pretty controversial subject that one either feels strongly about it in one direction or the other. Cat fight, rawr. For that exact reason I think each individual should be able to make their own decision and not have it decided upon by congress (socialistic, anyone?). Especially since a somewhat similar concept worked so well - the social security plan, anyone?
Unfortunately when you say "revolt", a common citizen has only a few real choices:
1) Write firmly written letters or post firmly written blogs
2) Picket in the streets or attend meetings
3) Just not pay
Are any of these methods really that effective if only done by the few that will stand by there viewpoints? Sadly, most people discredit those that rally and revolt. Paul Revere is rolling in his grave I am sure.
The discussion itself is onpoint. But I would like to state: Whatever happened to the individual pulling their own weight? I hate to sound cruel, but why am I supporting other people's healthcare and retirement when I won't see a dime of Social security? I don't really want to hear how this is different, the past stats tell the tale. I work HARD to have the lifestyle I have, I constantly battle the apathetic and "can't be dones" that life and industry throw at you.
This is specifically and only my personal viewpoint. In no way reflects the opinions of our company or other staff.
