That seems a little paternalistic to me. I suppose I have more confidence in the American electorate than you. Actually, I think the average citizen is better qualified to make the decisions that affect his/her everyday life than the idiots we seem to keep sending to Washington.
I don't think that it actually has a chance of happening. I was thinking more in terms of the political capital that it could generate for the president. I think if he used his bully pulpit to "call out" the Democrat leadership, it would boost his sagging approval numbers by showing that he is capable of strong leadership in the face of opposition from his own party. President Clinton often used a similar "triangulation strategy" during his tenure in the White House.
