Good question.  It was actually quite different.  There wasn't as much of a problem with non-paying companies, so there was much less of those posts.  There were actually a lot of helpful posts - many abstractors shared client lists to help fellow abstractors make contacts. There is too much fear of having clients stolen now for that.  That is probably a result of pressure to lower fees and less work to go around now.

There were also many constructive posts that helped launch NALTEA (and some not so constructive posts, too).  There was a lot of bickering over that subject - used to make me cringe when I'd see a NALTEA thread with 30 or 40 replies when I got in to the office.  But, it worked out and NALTEA became an active association.

Something that I never really saw much of, and still don't, are posts about what we do - abstracting.  It is very rare to hear people talk about their title problems and the real estate laws in the various states.  I always expected that the forums would be used to help abstractors become better educated about their professions.  I hoped that they would share experiences that we could learn from.  I'm not really sure why that doesn't happen.  Maybe because abstractors are afraid that they will end up looking like they don't know as much as they should?  Or, maybe there just aren't enough out there that really care to learn more?  I can't figure it out.

Anyway... all the posts are searchable... try searching for topics and see what you find.  You will likely find some interesting threads from back in the day.

Best,
Robert A. Franco
